Today has been a long but good one! One of my besties oldest son graduated from high school today. He's like a little brother to me and I couldn't have been more proud! Next year will be his little brother's turn to graduate. I can't believe they are all grown up! Gah! Why can't kids stay little forever? Tomorrow (now today) is my oldest niece's 8th grade promotion and then Thursday is my youngest niece's graduation from Pre-K. Quite the week for this proud girl! So happy for my fam :)
With the celebration today brought food. Unfortunately, a lot of food. I noticed as the day went on my KP (Keratosis Pilaris) started to get worse. What did I eat a lot of? Meat. I read an interesting article from a nutrition specialist slash life coach, Gabrielle Brick, who used to have KP and because it has to do with protein, it's something we should stay away from. That and dairy. I seem to have come to my breaking point today. My husband and I have already shopped for the week, but this coming Friday I will officially be on my new diet.
Only, this won't be a diet. It will be a lifestyle change, because I can't keep eating the things I'm eating. There are some downsides, like the limitations to what I can consume, but aside from having clear skin (fingers and piggies crossed!) I will also be extremely healthy! That is always a plus.
Here are my restrictions: Gluten/Wheat - Dairy - Meat. I can have fruits, vegetables, spices, some sauces, beans, nuts, legumes and seeds. So my plan is to create two meal plans. One for my husband, and one for myself. The ideal situation would be to only have to worry about myself, but I don't feel that my husband should have to suffer. Although, I will be cooking clean foods for him - all organic and fresh. So his foods will change as well. I'll also eliminate red meat for him, as it's the worst of the meats.
Anyway. . .I'm finding at the moment that my biggest obstacle will be finding different recipes or finding new ways to re-invent current recipes to suit my new lifestyle. I'll post them on here as I go, that way if you all feel like trying something new or jumping on the healthy bandwagon you can do so!
I know I've wanted to try the Gluten and Dairy free way of eating before, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. Now, I can't bring myself not to. I just can't. I'm unhappy, unhealthy and something has to change. Nothing can change, though, if I don't change myself. I have less than a week to prepare, and I'm going to make the most of it.
What is something you would like to change for an overall better you?
